In the movie An Eye For an Eye how was Robert Doob not fired from his job delivering groceries?

To anyone to has seen this movie, I just watched in on Amazon. In the movie a mother played by Sally Field daughter in murdered and the killer gets off because of some loophole. What I want to know is why he was able to keep his job when he used his job to set up the murder? Even when he used his job to murder another woman he still kept his job.

    In a normal and civilized world people don't lose their jobs for allegations; there must be a conviction.  I saw the movie long ago and can't remember if he was convicted.  I think he was not.  I remember loving how Mom had the last word too.
