  • If my path in life were to bring me to that point I don't know I would be talking to anyone.  That's just a guess.  I don't know.

    In most cases when people are truly going to commit suicide they don’t talk about it. They just follow through. Those who talk about it are calling out for help.

    Not going to commit suicide - it's a permanent solution to a short-term problem.

    EDIT:  Let me qualify that statement.  I would consider ending my life if I were diagnosed with a fatal disease for which there was no cure and I was in a great deal of pain. This post was edited by SpunkySenior at August 22, 2018 3:55 PM MDT

    I think it's because men don't care what they look like afterwards ... so are more likely to use efficient methods like firearms.
    Women still want to look good afterwards ... so are more likely to use inefficient methods like poisoning or drug overdose.

    Agreed, stats show that when men DO take that step they often use more violent and more surefire ways.. Perhaps they don't want to be maimed or have to live disabled.

    My friend's neighborhood has such a problem with rats, that a "pest control" company came out to treat the entire neighborhood and offered everyone 50% off the normal service cost.

    I said: "Of course they did.  They more than make it up by having EVERY homeowner buy their services, rather than just selling to 1 or 2 people at 100%."

    No pest control will come out.  They all say there's nothing they can do about "exterior" rats.  Right now this 'smart rat' is devastating my garden.  All my cantaloupe and tomatoes are gone.  It refuses to get caught in a trap (electronic or manual), but it will occasionally eat the bait.   Cats are not an option as there's no place to contain them, plus a mountain lion just moved into the neighborhood (with my luck he's probably a vegan and won't eat rats).

    Allegedly ... you're supposed to put traps out and bait them, but not "set" them for a couple days ... so the rat(s) get used to taking the bait.
    Then you "set" the trap after they're used to it.

    Or ... hire a kid with a pellet gun.  LOL

    I did that.  But this rat is very smart. He knows which traps are set and which ones aren't.  Of course, when there's a garden smorgasboard before you, why bother with a tiny morsel in a trap?

    Good point, wouldn't it be great if we had that level of trust and warmth on here that we felt we could turn to people here to ask for help.. They do say that most suicides can be talked out of... it's just that some people don't talk and sometimes there's no one there to talk to..
