Some adults indulge themselves engaging in infantile rants and raves and rages. What do they get from it besides the ridicule of observers?

A person who rants and raves is someone who has lost self-control.  I know you are probably thinking of the Donald when you write this, but Serena Williams' meltdown yesterday was disgusting.  She took the moment of glory away from Osaka and the focus became on her behavior.  The news media, unfortunately, reported more on Williams' hissy fits than they did on the extremely fantastic play displayed by Osaka.  Williams claimed her coach was not coaching her, yet he admitted that he was.  She would have lost to Osaka even if she hadn't had three points deducted.  The fact that she made a little speech at the award ceremony that there should be no booing was irelevant and she still overshadowed Osaka.

No sweetie. As a matter of fact I wasn't. I watched the match and saw that Naomi was the better player yesterday. I saw Serena's coach "coach her" from the sidelines. Don't know if she saw  it. I saw/heard her go off on the line judge and she said "I'd rather lose than cheat". That was the first infraction. Coaches are not allowed to coach from the sidelines but most do. Then  Serena got angry at missing a point and slammed her racquet on the ground and it broke. She had a point taken away for that. Which infuriated her further. Then she apparently said the line judge was a thief for taking away a point and  a game was taken away for her saying that to him. The rules are very clear. Now her point about women being treated differently from men was well taken. HOWEVER that was NOT the place to discuss it. She could have said very calmly" I disagree with it and I'm protesting it. It was unfair."  End of story at that time. But she kept saying it and got angrier and that riled up the crowd to the extent that it was a mob of thugs who were out for blood and they didn't give a thought to the 20 year old girl standing there quietly waiting to resume play. The girl who OUTPLAYED Serena. Not a thought. Serena kept at it for what seemed like forever and then FINALLY asked the crowd to stop booing. She said "we will get through it""! A tennis match! I wonder how she would react if a REAL  DISASTER hit? She was not professional. She was not thoughtful or considerate of Naomi's feelings until way too late and then it was way too brief. Naomi APOLOGIZED TO THE CROWD FOR WINNING! She said she knew they were cheering for Serena and she knew it didn't turn out the way they wanted it to! When have you EVER heard a champion have to apologize for winning?  I was then and I am now so disgusted. Everyone I listen to is supporting Serena. Not one word about what all of that did to Naomi.  I cannot believe it. I know you already know everything I just wrote L but just in case anyone else cares I thought I"d write it all out. In the scheme of things considering that Serena has won 23 GRAND SLAMS. That Naomi had always dreamed of playing Serena in the US Open. That Naomi is only 20 and Serena is almost old enough to be her mother. You would have thought there would have been more human being there and less warrior. Thank you for your reply. Serena had a great opportunity to be gracious. Nothing that happened was Naomi's fault. It was Serena and the line judge and a long-standing fight against favoring men. But it was absolutely the wrong time and the wrong place to hash it all out.   :( This post was edited by RosieG at September 9, 2018 10:27 PM MDT

I was truly appalled at Serena's behavior.  I know that there have been male players who have gotten away with what she did, but it doesn't mean that her doing is makes it right.  Osaka is also quite young and I'm pretty sure that her Japanese upbringing is to be more civil and courteous to an older person which is probably why she apologized, but I felt terrible for Osaka.

Me too. I mean the first time you excel at anything is memorable just like the first time you fall in love. It SHOULD BE a very happy memory and it will never be that for Naomi thanks to the abominable behavior of Serena AND the abominable behavior of the New York "fans". It can't be undone. We move on but for sure whenever Naomi plays again and no matter whom she plays I will always be rooting for her. She showed a lot of class and was very hurt but managed to get through it. Good for her. She will only grow in stature and will mature into a very fine adult I'm sure. Thank you for your reply L and Happy Monday! :)
