Why do violins have "f" holes for sound on violins?

They used to have "c" holes.

I could give you a technically sounding BS answer that nobody could understand but that would make me look like an "A" hole...LOFL

They have had F-shaped holes since the 1600s.  The F-shaped holes allow a more robust sound than the predecessors which included C-shaped holes,  round-shaped holes, and half-moon-shaped holes.

I have no idea..........BUT it's my very favorite instrument, next to the human voice.

I also read years ago that no one can STILL figure out how the sound comes out the way it does.......is it the wood? the varnish? what?

    a very interesting puzzle!!!!!
