If you were a virgin gynaecologist and a young woman came to you for sexual advice on something you've never experienced, how would you handle that situation?

  • I would ask what the problem is, and if it's something concerning her anatomy or its health, I would have a look, and then explain using models and diagrams.

If what she's asking about involves specific practices or relationships, I would refer her to a psychologist who specialises in sexual matters, or possibly to relevant books.

Medical doctors do not need to experience every problem they treat. If they did, who would treat cancer, Alzheimer's, stroke, heart attack, etc? There could be no male doctors treating women's health issues and vise versa. Doctors also refer patients to specialists if the issue is outside their field of expertise.

The only advice any doctor should give his/her patients is medical advice.  A cardiologist need not have experienced a heart attack to discuss heart disease with a patient.  There are female urologists who don't have a penis. The same is true for a gynecologist.

  • I had posted this question in a lighter vein, hartfire, but thanks very much for taking it seriously enough to give your well thought out answer.

  • Ohhhhh! I can see where this might lead to.
Looks like the gynaec might learn a few things, hmmm?

  • My gynaec, a mother of teenage children, has advised me on things which propriety prevents me from touching upon here.
But you're right. In general, gynos are not sex therapists.
    Thank you.
