Never been a suer or a suee. Never sued anyone or been sued. So I don't know how it works. Does the loser pay the winner's legal fees?

If so does that include all attorney's fees and court costs besides whatever might be awarded? It could get really expensive right?

    It depends on the jurisdiction.

My mom had to take someone to small claims court, so I know a little about that (in our area).
You can't recoup attorney fees, because you aren't allowed a lawyer to represent you in court.
You can't recoup the cost of lost wages.
You can recoup the cost of filing the case, if you win.

I have seen news stories that the state files to recover the cost of court cases, for cases involving vandalism and arson (forest fires).
Or when someone sues the state and loses.
