Assuming people have to EARN your respect do you have a one-size-fits-all litmus test or does it vary according to your whim?

I try to respect everyone as human beings even if I may disagree with them or even dislike them. For me, "trust" needs to be earned not respect. :)

I respect everyone unless they do something to lose it.  And still of much respect is given just for being a person and whatever position they may hold. ie. parent, elder, authority figure etc.
