Dog ticks are far more resilient than the human verity.....they really take some licking to get rid of them.... more so if the if the ticks are healthy a jaws are up to scratch.....:)D
I used to take my dogs on walks through meadows and forests in Charleston, SC. I usually got more. It is probably due to the fact that I am exposed to the entire plant that has the ticks.
My dog gets flea and tick meds. He's 8 years old, and so far no problem. As for us, I know the specific areas in this town where ticks have been known to be a particular problem, so we avoid those places. Prevention for us thus far seems to be the best protection.
My dogs get Lyme disease shots every year and they have Flea and Tick meds. I get my Booster evrey two years for Lymes disease, required in Central and Eastern Europe with the prevalence of that disease
