When a petition goes around for Halloween to be done away with, I'll sign that one.

I've never heard of it until now. It would not phase faze me in any way, because I pay no attention to Hallowe'en, so the petition would make no difference to me.

As an idle rich guy (and atheist) with a growing number of grandchildren, I think freeing up the entire day for people who work to party down in costumes is a splendid idea. Think Mardi Gras with little ones.

My home town always had us trick or treat on the last Fri of the month before the last Sat of the month.
We had a large Halloween parade Sat night.

I have not heard of this petition, but I don't sign them as a general rule.  All they do it give the ones who start them your email to stuff your Inbox with spam.

Having said that, due to security and safety concerns, a lot of the schools in NYC have Halloween parties in classrooms so kids don't have to go around from apartment to apartment.  Our co-op development is having an outdoor party on the premises for the kids so they don't go ringing doorbells at all hours of the day and night and drive the tenant nuts.

Personally, I think like that like Veterans' Day and the Fourth of July, Halloween occur on the date, independent of the day.

That would kind of screw things up since my husband died on Halloween.
