Cooperation is the key to our collective survival, ready forms of communication lie at the heart of effective cooperation. Even many lower mammals have some form of verbal communications.
Absent such abilities, we couldn’t efficiently warn others of approaching predators, imminent threats, or communicate beneficial knowledge from one generation to the next.
Verbal communication led to written language, which is a primary basis for the rise of our civilization. Without it, and assuming we still survived, humans might be an endangered species, food for lions, shivering in a hole somewhere, hungry and alone.
