Very few technological advances that were considered revolutionary 500 years ago exist today in their original forms because they've either

become obsolete, become redundant, have been improved upon so much that they don't resemble their predecessors, are no longer necessary, have been proven dangerous, or have been replaced by even better inventions.  Each era in history, it's practically been assumed that what's currently modern seems like the apex of human coming up with the latest and the greatest, only to be overshadowed by its impending replacement.

Fast-forward 500 years from today. In 2518, our present-day technological wonders might also share that same fate, but is there also a possibility that inventiveness borne of the human mind has reached its pinnacle?
