Are you scared to die?

We are all going to die, and when we do, we go rot in the ground.  There is no afterlife, as much as we might want one...  Our conciousness will simply cease to be...  what will that be like?  Silence and blackness?  No... something even less than that...   Remember back to before you were even born?  It'll be like that.

It depends of the point of view one has.
I am afraid of dying because I am still young.
But also I don't think it is the end. I believe in God. So there's a chance that there's an afterlife. Something after judgement day. It is my choice to believe in it.
If you think differently that's okay. I won't try to change your opinion.

Fine. I have no problem with that. What I also have no problem with is the fact that there is this wonderful person calling herself Trixy with whom I am in conversation at the moment, just like there were individuals called Mohammed [the prophet of Islam] and Malcolm X [the American civil rights activists]. Irrespective of how they came about, they exist or existed. If they existed here as uniquely identifiable individuals, on what basis can we rule out their existence elsewhere? And as I asked before, where did you get your certainty from that "There is no afterlife,"?

"never done it before!" ha ha ha  Good one. But isn't "never done it before!" the very reason that might make it scary.

     Alice-in-Wonderbra hah! Very GSOH

could illustrate that in your profile picture :)

Never done it before is more exciting than scary to me. And likewise on the profilepic ;-)

Even though at death a human goes back to the dust from where he came, the bible gives reason to believe those that die have the hope of the resurrection here on earth. The wise and faithful job asked the question "if a man dies, can he live again? I will wait all the days of my compulsory service until my relief comes. You (God)will call, and I will answer you. You will long for the work of your hands."(job
    14:14,15)

I'm not scared. It will be the end. It will be all over. All the more important to make the most out of each day, loving those we love, and accepting the love given to us.

Everybody's scared to die. If not of the event itself, then of the pain of getting there or of what happens afterward.  Anyone who tells you that he or she is NOT scared of some element of death is ...well...not very in touch with themselves. :-)

You are thinking about dying? Are you OK? I care about you! is something happening in your life that is bad? Please don't even think about killing yourself. Please try to think about what you have that is good, and all your loved ones. Ask God to show the truth about himself. Give your heart to Jesus and he will give you joy to live for him. And he will hear your prayers if you are born again. And he will bless you. When you die the very next thing I believe if you are born again is that you will go to heaven. "No ear  has  heard or eye seen what God has prepared for those who love him" But if you are not born again then the next thing you will experience is face to face with God to account for every idle word. We all have good years and bad. Me too. We can turn it around. If you are depressed can you see a counselor, and meds really work (SSRI). Not narcotic meds.

More of your Christian propaganda. There are other good and valid religions, you know, that don't call for belief in hokey, magical, physically impossible myths such as immaculate conception and resurrection.

Oh, yeah!  You showed her!  She writes a caring (albeit a bit preachy) post to the OP, and she deserves your (self-) righteous outrage.  I can't believe you haven't torn her a new one again. It seems to make you feel REALLY good.  (Note: if you ever wondered why people don't trust/like atheists, this might be why.)

...Eh, just out of curiosity, you didn't happen to torture defenseless animals as a kid, did you?  Beat up the little kids in the neighborhood, maybe?

  • Nothing scary about non-existence.

But only 2% of deaths are painless and peaceful - so to me, the process of dying is very scary.

When my time comes, I'll be choosing euthanasia.

  • friend-message me if you like.

I've lived through a few depressions and have finally learned how to keep them at bay.

I'm no professional but there's a chance I may be able to help you help yourself.

Speaking as one who's suffered from and has been treated for depression, there are a few things you can do to make it better; exercise, a regular sleep/wake schedule, sunlight and vitamin C.  (Vitamin C is used in the production of serotonin--the anti-depressive neurotransmitter.)

As far as dying is concerned, remember that, if there is a God, what you believe about God is irrelevant.  It's conceivable that, when we die, what remains of us as energy (which can neither be created or destroyed) goes on--to be reincarnated/recycled, to go to our 'heavenly reward' or...well, you know the rest. :-)

In any case a life is a terrible thing to waste.  For all we know we only get one. Don't waste it.

Thank you Nimitz for your thoughts.  I don't think I want to waste my life... if only because I'm too scared to die.

Eeh crap my sleep schedule is awful !

It doesn't matter as much when you sleep as that you do it regularly.  Your body needs a schedule to know when to make neurotransmitters.

As for being too scared to die, that's automatic.  I know of no life form on earth which isn't reflexively scared to die.  Plants, maybe, but we have no way to know for sure about them.

Well...sometimes I wonder.  Suppose you were thrown into a REALLY horrible situation. Much MUCH more horrible than anything you've ever experienced before.  Which would you rather have if you knew you couldn't escape by any other means; death or immortality?  :-)

I'll take Death for a hundred, Alex. :-)
