In a Philosophy class many decades ago this is the question we debated. "Does genius ENTITLE those who are to special treatment?"

Should we cut them more slack, give them greater freedom to express themselves than we would ordinarily give to others?

Well as I recall the class was split. I am of the opinion that genius is smarter and should know better and if you know better you should do better and better means you are kinder more helpful more decent more positive. Others said genius is valuable and uncommon in and of itself and so those who are genius types DESERVE to be treated with kid gloves. I think that's bullsh**! What do YOU think and why?

I don't believe genius is entitled to be treated better than anyone else.  Perhaps we should pay more attention to them and their ideas than we would to others, but as far as how they are treated, they still are required to follow the same rules.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply L. I believe "to whom much is given much is expected". I also believe in "noblesse oblige" which may just be fancier way of saying that those who receive much should give back much. :)

I agree and I try to do that.  Helping those in need makes them feel good and me feel better. :)

Who decides who is or who is not a "genius"?   We don't come out with it stamped upon us.  What happens is that if someone feels a person's abilities can do them some good they give often do give them special treatment. For what they can get out of them.  Can't get anything out of them then no special treatment. So is not being "entitled" to is but rather if someone is benefitting from whatever genius a person has then they are seen as deserving it.  Not because of their "genius" but because it is benefitting someone or some group of people.  So because it is benefitting them then they give the "genius" special treatment.

The dictionary defines GENIUS as having an IQ of 140 or above. It indicates POTENTIAL and has nothing to do with EXECUTION. Thank you for your reply og.

Never known of anyone given special treatment because of their IQ.
