How exactly does someone 'grab a bite to eat'?

I use my hands in a similar fashion as my one-year-old niece. 

With eight people at the table you had better grab it before someone else does.

But how do you grab a bite?

Take it out of someones mouth..

...then eat it?

Ugh

That works pretty well with broccoli. Just hold it like a club. If a cop looks at you, bite the end off.
