Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Is or isn't it illegal to ORDER people to work without pay as the stable boy has done during his very famous stable boy government shutdown?
I believe it's legal (in their contract). However, I hear one union is suing the gov claiming that it is illegal. (the one time I hope the union wins).
SAY WHAT? You mean all government employees SIGN CONTRACTS that stipulate they agree to work without pay if they are required to do so? How can a contract like that be valid and hold up in court? I would NEVER sign such a dumb-a** thing like that. Sheesh. Thank you for your reply Shuhak and Happy Thursday! :)
They make you sign a bunch of paperwork when you start at any job. When I first started out working I took a union job and the paperwork they made me sign was phenomenal. Who's got time to read all that? (don't even get me started on unions!) Oh, they may tell him verbally, but a job's a job. And of course employees probably thing what are the chances that a shutdown will actually happen during the time I work there? Even if it's happened before or occurs semi-frequently, to them getting that job "now" and taking that chance is better than being unemployed.
Gosh I did not know that. I don't remember ever having to sign an employment agreement Shuhak. I guess I never worked at a high enough job to require it. So having a job is better than not True dat. When you are forced to work without pay that seems like a very terrible price to pay. Don't know when the standoff will end but stable boy is way outmatched by Pelosi et al. Now the real fun begins! And to have Maxine Waters IN CHARGE OF THE HOUSE FINANCE COMMITTEE is icing on the cake! The hapless stable boy thinks she is low IQ eh? I don't envy him nor do I pity him. What he gets he will deserve and have earned and he should not be robbed of it. Thank you for your reply! :)
The contract is worded in such a way that ensures those employees will be back-paid as soon as government is operational again. It may have to wait until His Royal Orangeness is impeached, his tantrum doesn't seem to be ending any time soon, but they will be paid.
I read somewhere that retroactive pay wasn't assured R. I don't know if that is true but if all this time goes unpaid ever then lots of folks will have a very rough time of it. He is scared to death of upsetting Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter so he will do whatever it takes to please them and standing his ground till the walls come a tumblin' down is what he will do. Some probably think he is being very brave. I think that shows incredible weakness. Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday! :)
