Something that nobody can ever take away from you.
Yes,
I got selected to go to Germany in a friendly competition against another chosen German unit. It was an athletic and shooting competition. They had the shooting competition first, and I did really well.
Then the Germans took us on a weekend of sausage, bread, tea, and beer marathon that did a number on my innards basically sidelining me for the rest of the stay. So yeah, I've had a couple. You????
My peak moment was when the head of department at Sydney Boys High accepted my 22 point plan for teaching gifted and talented kids. At the time the ideas were new and experimental. It was such a success that it subsequently got adopted all over the state, and later integrated into special schools designed for the gifted. Before that time, those kids had no opportunities to reach their full potential. At least 10% would turn to delinquency out of boredom. And many of the nerdy ones failed to develop proper social skills. The program worked not just on developing the particular talents, but also on helping them become socially integrated, by working together on projects in teams.
Sorry, you got sick on that unfamiliar German food. It would put me off beer & sausages for life.
Now I know you're a crack shot I know to be careful around you.
What a Fantastic story!!
Especially when it matters and serves so many. Great accomplishment. Perhaps great accomplishments should be measured in terms of how the serve others and not just ourselves. You are certainly a gifted person.
Well done A.
It was my head of department who got the kudos. If I'd done it as part of a PhD in education and measured the results over 7 years, I might have got some recognition.
But it honestly doesn't matter. I'm just happy that it worked, and still does - even though I've been out of teaching for 14 years.
We never really stop teaching tho. I have certainly learned a lot from you my dear A.
Mmm -
Some have said that I'm pedagogic by nature.
Depending on the intent of the speaker, it can be either compliment or insult.
I'm not sure how I feel about that - happy if what comes from pedagogy proves beneficial I suppose. Not so happy when I make mistakes.
"Educare," in Latin, means to train or to mold.
"Educere," to lead out.
I prefer the latter. If one can draw people out, inspire curiosity, and pass on research, thinking and communication skills, it can help them become their best selves. Back in the day, I did my best to do that through the medium of art.
