do the sun disappears at around 5 pm, you too ?

here in canada, at around 5 pm the sun disappears and its already dark.

    In NYC, the sun seems to disappear around 4:30 PM.

    Yes. I'm in Minnesota and this time of year the sunset is at about 4:30. But six months from now we'll have daylight until almost 10 p.m.

    Oh yes. Without my finding an atlas to investigate properly, I'd say from the sunset times JaneS gives, my Southern English home's latitude (about 52ºN) is somewhere near that of hers in Minnesota.

    Longitude delay (15º/hour) doesn't come into it because we are each referring our times to our local noons.
