Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Have you ever had to admit you were dead wrong about something you were positively stridently CERTAIN about? Did it kill you?
Ah, the obstinate person. We've all met them. We've even been one at one time or another. People hate to admit that they are or were wrong. We tend to think that admitting error makes us appear weak. Weakness is a sign of failure and the world hates failure. How many arguments start because one or more of the parties won't admit that they were wrong? Yet who do you admire more... one who is willing to admit they were wrong, or one who refuses to admit it? We're all wrong now and then. In fact, we're wrong a lot more often than we're correct... we just don't want to admit it. Be it at our jobs, in our relationships, or wherever, we always like to be right. It gives us a feeling of power (if I'm right then you're wrong; that makes me better than you). The more "powerful" we feel, the less likely we'll admit that we're wrong (about anything).
"I was wrong". Three little words. Three little words rarely spoken. Instead we hear, "I was misquoted."; "I never said (or did) that."; "You must be mistaken."; "It wasn't me.". How much suffering could have been avoided? How many broken relationships could have been mended (or not broken in the first place)? How many wars could have been averted? Simply by someone (sincerely) saying those 3 little words - "I was wrong".
I think taking responsibility for your words and deeds SHOW STRENGTH. Refusing to do so show WEAKNESS AND FEAR. Which is among the reasons I LOATHE the Putin puppet. He is a very weak and fearful person. Nothing to admire whatsoever. In my opinion. I realize full we he has millions of admirers. None of whom are among my friends. I can't relate to anyone who thinks he is "great". Thank you for your thoughtful reply Shuhak. I always admit it when I find out I was wrong. That is only with regard to facts of course. Opinions vary all over the place as you know. How can you be wrong about opinion? It is what you believe to be true or is true for you. SIGH. :)
Me too. I always admit it when I get it wrong if it is fact-based. Opinions are different of course. I also immediately admit mistakes and don't try to hide them because eventually you will be found out and it will be infinitely worse for you. At least I imagine that is true. I don't know because I never tried that. Thank you for your reply NdP.
A very foolish person. That is the answer to your question. But since you are never wrong it is moot academic rhetorical. Thank you for your reply elon! :) What happened to the rest of your moniker? Inquiring minds wanna know these things! :)
