  • No - never even heard it.

    Had to look it up.

..."a mild profane oath, which literally means 'God's dear body!' It's now archaic, but was used as an exclamation like God damn! or a host of others."

Quaint! I could use it next time I prick a finger while darning a sock. Thanks! :)

I enjoy using archaic language. I can insult someone and they wouldn't know it.

No, but I do believe that I quite like it! Thanks!

Thanks for posting what it means, hartfire. Saved me a trip to google! I seriously like it, too! Almost as much as Trump being called "Lord Cheetoh" (that's a new one for me this week, too).

  • Aah! Now that's a smart trick! To have the satisfaction of self-expression while causing no offense or harm.

    I like that. :)

No. Never. Why would you ask such a strange question?

I am aware that people used to say some odd things, such as "ods bodkins" meaning "God's body" or "gadsooks" meaning "God's hooks". I even know that at one time "Quoz" was a popular expression meaning almost anything, roughly equivalent to modern "far out, man". But I don't go around saying such things.

No but there was some Shakespearean line that had the words "bare bodkin" in them.   I don't remember what tale it was nor what it means either.

I am thinking it is some sort of thread holder.
