My mother told me about her fondness for Postum. It was a very common drink during the depression because it was cheaper than coffee.
Postum was off the market, so I got some barley tea for her. Meh. That was the only thing I knew about the recipe: barley tea.
Eventually I discovered that the Postum brand had been bought and was on the market again, so I bought a bottle. Mom was tickled to have Postum again. Until I mentioned that it cost twenty bux now, twelve for the bottle and eight for postage. She was aghast. She refused to drink it again. Too expensive!
My mom grew up in a Mormon household. That's what some of the stricter Mormons in her family always drank. The Jack Mormons of course kept their coffee and liquor.
I’m not much of a tea drinker, I prefer coffee. I do keep a decafinated cinnamon spice herbal tea in the house for when I want a warm drink in the evening. I had one last night, so yummy :)
