Why have laws if anyone is ever going to do is ignore them?

  • Good question.  Some laws are just more urgent to enforce than others I guess.  Sometimes that works and sometimes .. not so much.

Laws are the basis of civilized society. Laws supply a systemic mechanism for enforcing norms of social conduct. Without them, no function of our modern culture would operate for very long. This is why we have laws.

While I can’t speculate on where YOU live, I say it is extraordinarily unlikely that “everyone” ignores the laws.

Unless you’ve been involved in war, a genocide or similar disaster, I’m here to tell you that no one who hasn’t, has the remotest clue of what true mass lawlessness is like. This post was edited by Don Barzini at February 3, 2019 12:18 PM MST

No way to learn and memorize every law so we just have to adopt a code of conduct which will put us in accord with most of them.
