It's like getting a Ph.D then slinging hash, emptying trash. Did the military really sign on to fight/die for us or build a wall?

I'm guessing there is more to being in the military than showing up each day and providing GRUNT labor to build a wall or install wire. Is that a good use of those assets in your opinion? If you are in the military currently or retired would that have filled you with such elation and joy! Digging holes. Putting up steel slats. Pouring concrete? Really? "Our is not to question why ours is but to do or die." At a border building a wall to keep out asylum seekers and children who would die if they stayed in their own countries? This is a good thing?

The military builds things all the time. Ever hear of the US Army Corps of Engineers?

Most who are enlisted are trained to do one job but end up doing something else. Military does much more than just fight and die.  This post was edited by my2cents at February 5, 2019 7:13 AM MST

The military works on whatever is necessary for national security.  Its not all foot soldiers demonstrating bravery in battle.  There are many branches and much of the work is drudge work.
