Rankings versus winnings is weird. Take tennis why don't you?

Kohlschreiber(sp?) ranked number 39 in the world BEAT Djokovich ranked number 1

WHICH MAKES NO SENSE IN ANY UNIVERSE

Then Kolschreiber was beaten by Monfils, ranked number 19 which MAKES COMPLETE SENSE

I know. Any given person on any given day can beat any other given person on any other given day. Still. It's weird.

Rankings are theoretical ... Winnings (and statistics) are actual.

As your example shows, even someone ranked #1 can have an "off day" or their competitor can "get lucky".
Or a single "bad call" can change the outcome of a game.

And the more people involved, the more complex the formula for determining rankings can get.
Take football teams.  I believe it's only been recently that the rankings for college teams changed to take into account the rankings of the teams they played.  (EG: if you beat 12 high-rank teams, your rank is higher than if you beat 12 low-rank teams.)

So whatchure telling me is that "it's complicated" right Walt? SIGH. Thank you for your thoughtful and helpful reply. Is there anything anywhere that isn't complicated? I gotta ask!  :)

Well, if we could predict the results with 100% accuracy ... what would be the point of actually playing?   LOL

Golf is a good example. If a golfer finishes fifth in every tournament, he /she would rank number one. Same with NASCAR. You can be number one in the season-end race-offs without having won a race.

It's only weird if you care enough to follow it. Personally, I don't give a rat's hind quarters who wins, who doesn't, and who's ranked where.
