I have a fantastic (albeit sometimes weird) sense of humor. Unfortunately, almost all the people I'm around are humorless. It's so frustrating! I feel like an accomplished musician playing to a room of deaf people. I kind do feel sorry for them. They don't know what they're missing by not being able to laugh.
Well you do have e sense of humor then - just not the same as other people. I can identify as when I try to be funny people take it very seriously and don't get it. So mostly I don't even bother. Though sometimes can't resist the temptation. Anyway I sort of think those who always have to be making jokes often do it because they don't want to face themselves and their unhappiness.
In a slightly serious vein a sense of humour is not about making others laugh. It is a mechanism which allows us to interpret situations so that they don't get the better of us and overwhelm us. It helps us keep our intellectual and emotional balance, and is, in that way, our method of survival. Don't be too bothered about whether others are or aren't responsive.
My seriousness and efficiency rather causes people to think I have none which is wrong. I do but it is very personal and on the dry side which most people don't get. But then I don't get it when people think they are being humorous when they are not. Almost nothing worse but you just have to go along with it and humor them!
