How much?
I didn't really begin to love school until college. Perhaps because this was the first time I was studying exactly what I wanted to and felt more independent. The social pressure that I felt in high school and below also seemed to lessen once I got to college and I was able to relax and enjoy myself more.
I did well in high school and middle school and I had a close group of good friends, but I was mostly just waiting for school to be over during that time. Now that I've had six years of college and I'm a teacher myself, I can't seem to get away from the "school" environment :)
HATE. HATE x 1,000,0000+infinity
Most of my classes were very boring so I just fooled around. Not exactly love nor hate. I loved many of my college classes; especially the science ones.
school was a nightmare
Me neither. I seem to be a professional student.
"Formal" primary and secondary school was a complete waste of time and resources for me. I absolutely hated it. (My kids didn't endure that hell and they're turning out just fine, even doing very, very well in "trade" schools.) College was, OK, but not great.
Everything that I now do to earn a living I learned to do on my own. Most of the technology that I deal with isn't even taught in school.
Hated school. I was a total geek that didn't fit in. Then later on, I stopped caring about my grades and hung out with a tough crowd. My saving grace was marrying too young and starting a family. That got me away from making even worse decisions with my life had I not lost that set of friends.
I did go on to take a lot of college courses that I absolutely loved and excelled at. I had a good career for many years, even without a degree. College was a night and day difference from high school.
What exactly is 'tough crowd'? Was it a shotgun wedding?
I hated high school. Loved college. Grad school was horrible but made great life long friends there.
In my 36 years of existence nothing has been more awful, mind numbing, or shifty as school was.
There was not one single thing I liked about going to school. Not to mention I learned more going out adventuring and reading at home than I ever did from school work.
They were kids that were definitely heading for trouble.
No, no shotgun wedding. I had my first 5 years after I got married the first time. Still way too young.
If I could do it over, I would have loved to have gone to college knowing how different it is from high school.
I actually enjoyed it while I was there. I only quit because I needed an income. I'd gladly go back if I could! lol
I hated it, I was bored silly and skipped most of high school before dropping out the spring of my senior year. I went back and finished several years later and then went to college, which wasn't much better, though I did enjoy tutoring. I like learning on my own, both by reading and hands on.
School interfered with my education.
Can relate to this.
Love sitting there on my own and learning. I can go for hours researching a topic of interest.
So can I, Peas...and often do. I like learning how to do things by just jumping in and doing, too.
S&P I love/hate school. I love the structure because I can go off on tangents and accomplish a lot of nothing. I painted for a few years and finally took a water color class and learned more in a few lessons than I did by myself. So, school is a great structure for me in many ways. I also hate it. Probably for the same reasons that you do. It can numb the brain with rote nothingness. But I always take something out of each class I am forced to endure. And, of course, when you have a good teacher, it is a joy.
