Mexico says there is no way it will build it.
Are nukes an option here? I mean, I'm just asking, since we have them, why not use them?
He'll stop eating Taco bowls at Trump Tower
We already covered this. They already said they WOULD NEVER. Remember ??? Six months ago???? John Oliver's show?
Nuke 'em! :-)
He might hire Pink Floyd to do it.
Maybe he'll make a plea for payment on a Mexican Radio
He'll say he was being facetious and that we all should have know that already.
He'll hold the margarita and Cinco de Mayo hostage until they pay up
Critical thinking, Marguerite. To me it's obvious that what Trump meant is that when jobs return to the USA, Mexico's loss will build that wall.
It will be done with a hefty tax on money transfers to Mexico, If someone here wants to "wire" cash (ie. Western Union Moneygram) to someone in Mexico that transaction will be taxed.. The only way to refuse to pay is to refuse to send money across the border.
Then he should be clear about it and say that America is going to pay for it, and they will recoup the cost through the resulting improvement in the economy. Because it sounds just like he's saying he will use economic leverage to force Mexico to foot the bill themselves. When one's base is incapable of critical thinking, one should really be clear about what one is saying.
And what happens when the money transfers all dry up, once all the illegals are deported? Oh wait, he's not doing that anymore, lol.
You really think it's going to be so easy for the US government to chase down every money transfer? Good luck with that one.
The US government already monitors all that now.
They sift through all those transactions looking for patterns for money laundering and illicit drug trafficking. And on top of that the companies that handle those kinds of transactions will have no choice but to "officially" report them and collect those taxes on behalf the government. It will be that or face severe penalties and criminal prosecution, just like happens to businesses that are responsible for collecting various other transaction taxes like State sales taxes and Federal excise taxes.
So good luck to you if that happens and you try to evade those taxes.
Even if you can manage the legal red tape required to implement these taxes, you are still left with a problem: "Illegals" will find some other way to move money. Legal immigrants will be the ones who are paying the tax. Immigration from Mexico to the US will continue to drop, and when (or if) the great Deportation occurs, most of the additional tax revenue will dry up. Trump is peddling fantasy.
I'm just telling you what I've heard to be the proposed plan to finance the wall/fence to protect the southern border. I offer no critique of that concept, either pro or con.
As to illegals finding a way to evade the tax that may well be true. But that's also true of any other government tax plan. There will always be people that will try to evade their responsibilities and obligations to the rest of us.
And as to the whole thing causing immigration to slow down and stop; well, that's kinda the point of building a barrier to begin with. So it sounds like you think it will work.
I doubt it would have any effect on the desire to get to the US. I recall a dim memory of reading an article months ago relating to this, and plans have already been made to circumvent it. Suddenly, instead of going straight to Mexico this cash will be diverted via some other country - any one with a banking system will do. Then from that country to Mexico or yet another country, and another, and another, and another.
It's an impossible task without completely gross and extortionately expensive government interference, which may well be illegal inside or outside the US. Political promises are often nonsense, but this is a cracker.
I guess it's his personality to speak in all kinds of language constructions. I'm not a Trump fan. I'm not a fan of anyone interested in being the president of the country in this election cycle. That's a first for me.
