I ate some wild boar. It tasted like domestic hog meat.

And what does domesticated hog meat taste like?  Is this ham?

They are truly a problem in the US.  My cousin hunts them in the Florida Panhandle all the time, friends from Alabama to Pennsyvania hunt them as well.  They are tricky and nasty creatures, however real tasty.

I have shot several in the Wiener Wald in the last year.  It is a requirement of having a Jaegars License here in Austria.  Similar laws are in place in most European Countries.  Two (2) years ago in the Loire Valley the car parks at some of the sites were closed due to danger posed by the wild Boars.  Last year a hiker was killed when the they came across a wild boar.

This is not new news for me

You are in Austria?  Holy Moly.  No wonder you have no idea what Trump is really like.

I am TOTALLY against the slaughter of any animal for sport.  I have no idea why you think it is your right to kill these animals.  Relocate them.  You are in their territory.  They are not for sandwiches.  They are living, breathing creatures who have just as much a right to this planet as you have.

Move them.  Don't eat them.  We have coyotes in Sun City, Arizona.  They are pests, but my feeling is we encroached upon their habitat.  It is up to us to make life bearable for these creatures.  Not hunt them and kill them because they are in OUR way.

That is the reason people are so brutal and disrespectful of animals and their rights on this planet.  If we have to care and be concerned, we have to WORK at this idea.  It is easier just to shoot them and forget about it.  I find it deplorable.

AND?  Meat is not good for you.

I gave you Asker's Pick because it really was a great answer. I just don't happen to agree with you. This post was edited by WM BARR . =ABSOLUTE TRASH at April 3, 2019 8:41 AM MDT

They breed faster than rabbits and are more dangerous.  They ruin acres of cropland, and damage to a vineyard takes at least 5 years to repair. They will hunt in packs and attack hikers, small children and farm animals.

Pigs are not native to North America, they are feral.  That is they ran off and went wild.  They were ignored for years and their territory is expanding.  Hunting is the only control sorry to say.

I understand your viewpoint, however I do not agree.  I grew up hunting because we needed the meat.  I still hunt for similar reasons.  Unlike in the States where I grew up, in the EU you cannot use a bow.  That is considered animal cruelty.  Go figure
