When it stopped playing music.

1995-ish

I never watched it.

I have not watched that show in decades.  I think I used to catch it early on because the idea of videos to music was so unique at the time.  Even Bob Dylan was bashing it saying it was a commercialized version of artists songs, etc.  There was a lot of complaints by artists about the purity of the music being destroyed.  blah blah blah.

Now we know videos are here to stay and they are great and make most songs better.

Kind of like a movie after a book or something if it is done right.

THE END.  I don't watch MTV any more.   But my middle initials are MTV and my email address has my middle initials.  BAD IDEA.  I have to give out Sharon MTV Harrison to anyone who asks for my email and I sound like such a fruitcake.

32 years.  The last time I watched it was back in 1987.  

I think the last show I watched, was Road Rules - the season they went to Australia.

I never watched it regularly but I did watch VH1 when it was all about the videos.
