Im paid 18$ /hour , but without all the taxes i pay and a insurance, i only receives like 800 $ per 2 weeks; which littely translate to around 80 $ per day.
And i feel its not a lot . But i accept it nevertheless.
I work for myself. Where I live $18/hr is pretty good pay. In my state, you would clear about $1180 after taxes (Assuming 40 hrs/week). I think you are in Canada so I am sure your taxes are running higher.
Hopefully you haven’t resigned yourself to this pay rate for the rest of your life. Sounds like a decent wage, though I don’t know what you do, but it’s a good idea to keep ”lines in the water”, in hopes of attaining a better paying job at some future time. Get some training, make yourself more marketable.
Start improving your lot, take evening classes to improve your skills and marketability. Clean up you public persona so yo look promote-able. Take Toastmaster to learn how to speak to groups. Get a vision of yourself three rungs higher on the economic ladder. Failure to do so will forever regulate yourself to the lower economic rungs of the Social Ladder
My husband and I are retired. When we were working, my husband especially ... made a very good salary as an engineer. Now we live on a pension and SS .. and our savings/investments. We're lucky to have a very good life with not a lot of money problems. It took years of working and savings to get there though.
I think those are probably younger folks who are mostly just living for today. Most of my senior citizen peers have been planning for their retirement for their entire working careers.
I think you're right Element. Young folks are just living for today and not giving a lot of thought about where they might be later in life. I don't even think they worry about having homes or cars paid off .. just figure they'll always have those monthly expenses.
I think that many of us need to make more money if we want to live in a house and not under a bridge like they do here in Colorado. You need to have at least 2 jobs. One that will pay for health insurance, car insurance and other insurances. And another job just for living expenses.
What do you do for a job, career. Both of my oldest 26 & 28 have living wage jobs, are saving, have houses etc. They did get emplyable degrees however; engineering.
Now for the non-college route there are jobs out there wanting folks that pay over $100K per year. CAD-CAM operators, Pattern Makers, and the like.
That's the thing; you need employable degrees. And a good brain! I have a friend with an engineer degree and he does very well. Not everyone is cut out to be an engineer or computer programmer. Many people I know (who went to college) work in labor, supermarkets, drugstores, etc.
That should have been evident when you started University. University is just an expensive trade school. Soft liberal Arts degrees though interesting are a waste of your four (4) years.
Look at the labor stats and see what is a well paying job out of trade school. Not as sexy as a Uni degree, however it puts food on your table
For about 10 years in my 30s and 40s I felt like I was overpaid for the work I did. Then the same job became an unbearable burden, not worth ruining my health over.
