  • at least ten in my bedroom alone, they're all just scented candles tho not those emergency candles. I'm not worried tho because in the two years I've lived here I don't think ive ever seen the lights do so much as flicker, never mind completely losing electricity

I have a bagful of such candles, but use flashlights in blackouts. We lost power for several days once and it really sucked because everyone in the neighborhood had generators except me.

More.  We have a number of candles but I don't think we have ever used any in our seven and a half years here.  When we are young and the power goes off - I can remember making love over and over. And even when I was not so terribly young.  But being older now we just go to sleep.

We have a lot of scented candles around. But usually use flashlights and camping lanterns in emergency situations.
We had a week-long outage about 10 yrs ago. We had young kids. My husband got one of the car batteries and somehow made it run the portable DVD player. So that helped some. Played lots of board games. Had gas hot water heater and gas grill so we had hot water and could cook.

This is not a joke.  My life was over for a long time because of it.  It turned out okay, but imagine being homeless in five minutes time.  One minute you are just on your computer minding your own business and the next thing you know a candle falls over in your bedroom and VOILA.

The fire department said that candles are the number one cause of house fires. This post was edited by WM BARR . =ABSOLUTE TRASH at April 17, 2019 8:47 AM MDT

No.  I just lit a candle and walked out of the room.  Wrote my daughter an email and heard a whooshing sound that I kept ignoring until I realized I did not know what that sound WAS.  It turns out my entire closet was on fire.  The candle fell over and the wax started on fire and the rest is history.  My mom was home in bed sleeping and I had to wake her up and tell her to get out of the house because it was on fire.

That did not go over well at all.

    Yep .. awful.
I lived in an apartment complex once, and one of the buildings was burned down due to somebody's candle.
Over a dozen families lost their homes and most of their belongings.

OH MY GOD.  I still have not gotten over it.  That would have been way more than I could handle if it were my fault.

I have a friend that she and her mom occasionally require oxygen.
But they keep the machine on even when they don't need it, because the insurance company will only continue paying for it based on the usage meter.  If the usage isn't high enough, the insurance company will stop paying for it.
So they are saturating their house with oxygen.
They have signs on the front door and windows warning about the danger of fire - but then hold the family birthdays there.
Complete with candles on the birthday cake!
Or they get upset with me, when I leave when they say they are going to light scented candles.

    Idiots!

None!  Not only are candles dangerous (fire), but the fumes they emit can be toxic.  I have 6 battery powered lanterns (1 per room) and numerous flashlights.

Instead of candles, there are three loose chocolate chip cookies in the bowl just out of my reach. This post was edited by Zack at April 18, 2019 5:19 AM MDT

8 Hurricane Lanterns, at least 24 spare candles
Numerous Candlesticks - probably 36 tapers of various sizes
    3 - large flashlights
    6  - small flashlights
    4 - small LED lanterns

    We think we are covered

Candles? Have you heard of this new invention called a flashlight (or torch depending on where you live)?

How could it be an accusation?  You’ve been in the cooking sherry again, haven’t you?

I have two boxes of 100 beeswax long-burning candles.  I got a deal on them right before Hurricane Irma.  I don't burn candles in my house anymore.  I used to but they cause a film to form on everything and when I renovated this place I decided no candles.  I still burn incense from time to time though.
