I know you are aware of my feelings towards Trump and my embarrassment for him being the representative of my party...
However, I think he is doing the right thing here.
Immigration is a hot topic these days, filled with hyperbole and passion. Donald Trump started his campaign playing on peoples passion with his hyperbole and rhetoric. I am glad to see he is actually asking questions and listening.
Passion says..."Build a wall", ,,,"Tax the rich..." it looks for the simplest way to quench itself. It rarely asks why.
Solving problems require communication.
Politics is a nasty game. Some cant lose and some cant win.
When we ask for the dialogue to go from talking about someone to talking with someone, and they do, what should we then say?
This is certainly not an endorsement of Trump, but in this case, he is doing the right thing...
Thank you for your thoughtful reply and the link des. Well Trump lied on stage. He said they did not discuss the cost of the wall or who would pay at all. The prez of Mexico said he told Trump Mexico would not pay for the wall. Whom do YOU believe? I appreciate your candor. By this response of yours I can see that you are taking Trump's run for the gold far more seriously than I am . I think he did this to get more press. He will do anything to be the center of attention and what better way than to visit a Country whose people he insulted multiple times and whose leader compared him to Hitler? As you can see his gamble paid off and he did get a lot of press and his visit will be the subject of many news shows however long that news cycle lasts. He is a showman after all. I will never take him seriously even if the worst-case thing happens and the American people actually elect him prez. I know. I read that his approval rating is 23% in his country Marguerite while Trump's approval rating in Mexico is 2%! I had to laugh at that. I mean there are actually 2% of Mexicans who like him. Imagine that? Thank you for your reply and Happy Thurs

Mexican President Nieto invited BOTH Clinton and Trump. Trump went, Hillary didn't. The mainstream media has criticized him for it, forgetting that Obama went to Germany in 2008 during the campaign and met with Merkel. The MSM reports the Mexicans were angered, while the conservative press reports that it was MIXED, with anger from some and positive reactions from others. I don't believe the trip was to control the news, but to actually start a dialog. But the Trump haters won't even give him half a chance.

Got a link to that story? Because I've been hearing the opposite from those that really know, not that they could admit the truth publicly (I'm in the DC area so, trust me, the people I'm talking to really do know.)
And I wonder how many of those allegedly angry and disgusted Mexicans were going to vote for Trump in November ? Oh, wait . . . who gives a good healthy crap about what Mexicans think about Trump? More like a few are just upset because Trump has threatened to stop them from stealing from their neighbors to the north. Too bad more Americans don't give a crap about their own country and want to stop the slow invasion from the south.
Different articles have different slants, who knows exactly what you're reacting to? I have not heard any specific outpourings of anger and disgust from the Mexican people, although representatives from a few groups have given statements.

Good relations between democratic countries that border each other should be a cakewalk, honestly. If Trump makes an enemy of Mexico without even taking office, that doesn't give much hope for his ability at foreign relations. But I can see that his propaganda campaign to cast Mexicans as an irrelevant people consisting of invading thieves has worked on you very well.
