If memory serves, you describe yourself as an "unabashed" Atheist, I would use that same description for myself. While you present a well described list of costs, billions of people throughout history have been willing to pay for it because they were getting something out of it. For many it has been gaining a sense of superiority over those who don't adhere to their beliefs, for others it was for "forgiveness", or guidance or a sense of comfort, we know that first group have done evil things in the name of their God.I do not look at those seeking, and finding through their faith guidance and comfort in the same way as I look at a child holding a belief in the Easter bunny or Santa Claus.  Many scholars and academics have held a faith in the unproven God, many men and women of reason have 'believed'. I am an Atheist, I need no God. I am fine with my mortality. I take my comfort in...    less

A person of means that was experiencing a temporary condition in which complete recovery was a given and financials were such that it wouldn't be of worry would be effected differently than one who has little means and inadequate insurances, one who might lose their home, their job, friends, or I should say acquaintances who lose touch because of the inconvenience to them.My experience is this. Years ago I suffered a very serious injury to my face and head. After a 13 hour surgery I was put into a medically induced coma. I stayed in that state for a little over a month. I then was in the NCCU (neural critical care unit) for another 3 weeks and then in then in the CCU unit for another couple of weeks. At the time I was insured through Kaiser, I was taken however to a hospital, not Kaiser .As soon as I was able to be moved I was transferred to a Kaiser Hospital which specialized in rehabilitation therapies where I stayed for...    less

I would not change the experience for anything..  less

My life is a twilight zone, not in a supernatural way, I've yet to meet a 3 eyed man or a giant boy playing with my house. Everyday new day is a mystery and I never know what it will bring, and there always seems to be a lesson to be learned,, especially when strangeness is near.Life is a fantasy. Working on my ground, down in the dirt is where I find my "ground", it can be magical..

Most things I have were bought while they were in need of repair or restoration. I have never bought a new car, I own no furniture that wasn't either handed down or bought used, most in need of restoring.  I own 3 motorcycles, 2 run, 1 does not but each one needed work. I pay cash for everything . I do not use credit cards, I even buy most cloths I wear on eBay..I have always been this way..I have built up, living this lifestyle a sizable estate. My home is worth 20-30 times what I paid, most everything I own has increased in value.I would give my self a solid 10 for my financial choices and I have enjoyed the "hunt" for things much more than I would have if I could have just gone to the store and pulled out a credit card...Edited for spelling  less

I am not too active here, but when I do come on I would like to see some of the questions and answers from certain members, especially when I share some of the same views. It doesn't make much sense to me for someone to join a public site and then hide their content...makes it seem like more of a club then a Q&A site
