Per Jerry Nadler "We are now in a Constitutional Crisis"! The day the sb prez was inaugurated in January 2017 HE WAS THE CRISIS! See?

He was IMMEDIATELY guilty of violating the EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE in the Constitution. IMMEDIATELY! What in the he** took the DEMS so long to get a clue?

The "Emoluments Clause" has an interesting history:
    https://constitutioncenter.org/interactive-constitution/interpretations/the-foreign-emoluments-clause-article-i-section-9-clause-8

Washington took gifts without Congressional consent.
    Jackson sought Congressional consent.

Then there is the old saying concerning government, along the lines of:  Whatever is not explicitly denied, is assumed approved.

So you are pro going back to the worst example? Seriously? Why? Thank you for your reply Walt. We begin to evolve out of the mud and you want us to go back down in and swim? Devolving?

I'm pointing out that there is no set-in-stone precedent on enforcing the Emoluments Clause.

By leaving it to Congress to consent to each situation individually ... it makes it even more vague and unenforceable.
We have a Republican Congress that, if it went to them, would give Trump consent.  But the same situation, they would deny (say) Obama.
(is there anybody who doubts that?)
Congress will base their consent on what party the official belongs to.

IMO, the only "Constitutional Crisis" with the Emoluments Clause, is that it is unworkable.

I'm reading Walt's comments and it all is so true.  It is chilling.  We are on the brink of disaster and we are victims of whatever fate decides.  We need to re-tool so many outmoded rules in the Constitution and what is allowed by Congress, that Trump did, indeed, drain the swamp.  He dismantled it by being a total crook and showing us how hard it actually is to work a broken system where crooks can rule the system.

Now what do we do?  Now, do we even survive to re-build anything?   Not if Trump is re-elected.  Something that SHOULD be so easy to thwart.  But we have a gerrymandered voting district in all states, we have a government protecting hacking since it is in their favor to do so and we have a GOP Senate to make sure all the dirt stays hidden.  How do we re-tool all this before 20/20?
