As a Briton I was ashamed to learn on today's News that Northern Ireland already has the same ban - if anything it's tighter, although none of the UK countries use life-long-plus prison terms.
Although Ulster is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - to give the full name - its own Parliament (Stormont) has a lot of devolved power, helping the established Christian (!) churches maintain their control of both populace and legislature.
It's thought that between 20 and 30 Northern Irish women a week visit England for a termination, though that's probably difficult to substantiate.
This is one of the matters government presumes to pronounce upon regardless of public opinion, and almost certainly for the wrong reasons, in which respect a mindless blanket law will do more harm than good. In matters like this, freedom of choice please.
