The Grand Tetons sounds inappropriate in its original language.

  • That was my first thought but then subtlety doesn't always suit me so well.

    Good answer, good answer.

The lake Titicaca, in french, would mean almost like ' lake little poop'.

Not a precise answer to this question, but the lyrics to Ernst Toch's "Geographical Fugue", in both German and English, are nothing but place names. A good listen especially if, like Flint Ironstag, one is partial to Lake Titicaca.

This first one always gets me,
Idiotville, Oregon and Boring, Oregon.  I mean no disrespect.  It just is funny sounding.
I also say with the highest regard to every and anyone living in these cities, probably they are the most well-kept and beautiful places to live.
    Toad Suck, Arkansas
    Ding Dong, Texas
    Cut and Shoot, Texas
    Intercourse, Pennsylvania
But, as Flint already pointed out, Titicaca is my favorite!

Although it has no vulgar connotation, I've also always liked Shickshinny, PA.

Pennsylvania does have some interesting names to their streets.
My old boss came from Pennsylvania and shared a few near the Amish Community. They do have some doozeys!! :) :)

True, although Shickshinny is actually a town.

The few I am speaking of are simply names of streets.  They wouldn't count.  Still, they did surprise me, especially near and in an Amish community. ;) :)

Minnesota has a town named Fertile and a town named Climax. Legend has it that a local newspaper published a story about a fatal car accident with the headline 'Fertile woman dies at Climax'.
