I've never had an enemy or opponent, but that's because I avoid rivalry.

However, if you're speaking of politicians - the professionals are obliged to play the long game.
They will tolerate a lot if it means a later chance for advancement.
We've all watched incredible careers rise and fall in the most unexpected ways.

You are an African American. This is a WHAT IF.  When racist comments are made that are particularly horrendous about African Americans your boss says "I agree with you. African Americans are not as smart or as personable or as educated or as interesting or as industrious or as efficient as whites".  Admittedly an exaggerated example but not out of the realm of possibility. How is that "long game" going to sit with you? Would you just write it off as a someone playing a long game except that it is your boss, a business person, who not only doesn't stand up for you but throws you under the bus?You say you avoid rivalry. In the case of prejudice and racism you have no say in it. It is thrust upon you without your permission/consent. If this WHAT IF were true could you really keep working for such a person?  Pols, business folks, co-workers, neighbors, whomevers. It is everywhere and seems to be growing/spreading/deepening/heightening/expanding. More's the pity. Thank you for your reply.
