Do any of y'all feel any attachment at all to your fellow citizens? If you encounter an American in a foreign country do you avoid/engage?

Is it okey dokey with you when foreigners diss your country and your fellow citizens while your very own sides with them out loud on foreign soil and co-disses American citizens? Why is that A-OK anyway?

I pay very little attention to what country a person comes from - unless it's something the person is keen to talk about.

While being a good citizen is a social virtue, I don't particularly like nationalism.
Being overly nationalistic can be a cause for racism and wars.

I'm more interested in a person's character than where they come from.
If they have integrity, kindness, intelligence and creative talent, I'm hooked.

The sb prez while in Japan dissed Joe Biden. The sb prez sez he agrees with Kim that Joe is low I.Q. I think that is a reprehensible thing to do. Outrageous. Disgusting. You missed the point of my question completely but it must be that I did state the question clearly. I an an American citizen of Armenian ancestry. I am very proud I am first generation American. However  when/if I encounter another Armenian I will say "eench bes es" which means "how are you"?  Though I am not a traveler I am CERTAIN if I were elsewhere and encountered a fellow American I would feel an affinity for him/her. That is the point of my question. Thank you for your reply and Happy Wednesday. Next time I shall to ask the question betterly.

Prez disses Joe solely because the latter has a different political philosophy.
It goes with the territory. Demogogues think that one of the most powerful tools in their arsenal is to sling mud at their rivals and they don't care whether it's true or not. Unfortunately, the polls and voting results show that it works with about 60% of loyalists. That's enough for the populists; for them, the end justifies the means.

I have travelled overseas extensively, and I regret to say that U.S. citizens have an appalling reputation as tourists. I have seen them pat or slap porters on the back in countries where touching is considered a violation. They throw tips on the ground at the feet of servants. They yell orders without a please or a thank you. And that doesn't touch what they do when on the hunt for sex. It goes on and on. It's as if being away from home gives them a license to misbehave. So much so that they soon learn to avoid putting their flag on their luggage, while Canadians make a point of displaying their maple leaf to ensure that they won't be mistaken for Americans.

As for prez - he has that Machiavellian type of intelligence -- slimy. You and I would describe it as stupid because, in the long term, his narcissism and selfishness do not help the country thrive. Joe, on the other hand, has great compassion and wisdom. So really, when the prez disses Joe, he's really only describing himself. This post was edited by inky at May 29, 2019 12:53 PM MDT

The only foreign country I've been to is Canada ... and the last time was a couple decades ago.
Everybody looked the same there as here, and I've never heard anybody talking politics or where they're from (America, Canada, etc).

I wouldn't mind visiting again - but the last time they profiled me because of my (pro-American Constitution) bumper stickers and clothing, so I don't plan on going back anytime in the foreseeable future.

As to the other part of your question ... we (Americans) "dis" other nations all the time.  So I see nothing wrong when they "dis" us.
And honestly, many nations have legitimate reasons to "dis" America.
Either because comparatively low education standards, or our international bullying.
