    Not lived in water as amphibians but there is a theory (I am afraid I cannot cite) that our ability to walk upright was originally an adaptation our ancestors developed so they could wade into lakes and rivers to catch fish.

      Thank you, Durdle, but does that describe humans?  If the theory is correct, the life form or the species might be something other than human.

    You could be right, but a predecessor hominid not far from our own. I don't have the literature on it I'm afraid, and may have heard it in a science programme on the radio.
