Downward slope of life. You begin losing people faster/ wondering who's next and when will it be me who goes? Ever feel/think that way?

The older one gets, the fewer and fewer "contemporaries" remain.

This "downward slope" begins the day one is born.  For example, several people whom I had gone to school with since kindergarten, never made it to high school graduation (accidents, medical complications, and such).  Tragic, yes, but life went on.  A few more would occasionally crop up in the obituaries.  Then the musicians, singers and TV/movie actors I had grown up with stated to "leave" - even parents.  And each time the world seemed to get a bit emptier.

I went to high school with a boy named "Lee". His younger sister Judy was in the same class as my younger sister Carol. Shortly after I graduated from high school I learned from my sister who learned from Judy that Lee had drowned while swimming ALONE in the ocean at Laguna Beach. I still remember learning about it. He was a VERY STRONG SWIMMER but he was out there on his own and got into trouble from the undertow or cramped up. I don't know. But I still remember the shock of that! I guess it was my first experience with death of a peer. Then as you say through the years others I knew or knew of would "leave" via many ways. Overdose of drugs for some celebrities. Auto accidents.  Planes that crashed and killed all aboard.  Being murdered (Tupac). Thing is once they're gone they stay gone and that list keeps growing ever longer. There is nothing more serious than life or death and no matter what happens  people continue to be born and continue to die. When you're younger and work and have a family to consider you don't have time to dwell on it or even think about it. But when you're older? Lots of time to think about lots of things. The sb prez is an inconsequential blip on the radar in the great scheme of things and  not worth our attention. He fades from sight when a tragedy occurs. He is irrelevant. All that really matters is life and death. I'd like to peek beyond life into "the great beyond" fast forwarding just to see how things will be and what will be important then?  Thank you for your thoughtful reply Shuhak. What will today and tomorrow and all the tomorrows bring? More life and death. And so it goes! This post was edited by RosieG at June 5, 2019 3:15 AM MDT
