  • It really is the only way. Once we get rid of all regional accents,  then we must move on to clothing. All people should wear black pants and black t shirt. Sweaters for people in colder climates. No shorts for people in warmer climates though, too provocative.

    Fifty years ago it might have been the BBC news presenter's voice in England,
    the Edinborough accident in Scotland,
    the educated in Australia,
    perhaps the Philadephia in the USA.

    Nowadays linguists acknowledge that no accent is value-free - every accent by definition indicates its origin.

    The accent that sounds the most "neutral" is the one that surrounds you most of the time,
