Morality is larger - it involves values about behaviours that affect one's community or society as a whole. In matters moral, how others judge us can have significant effects on our work, familial and social relationships. It slides into matters legal.
Ethics are personal - they involve what matters to us in order to have a sense of integrity. In matters of ethics, one's personal sense of responsibility is the only thing that matters, and other's opinions are irrelevant. An example. I'm a vegetarian - but I would never judge others for eating meat.
Which matters more/most to you bw? What you think of you or what others think of you? Both exist and operate 24/7 so whose judgment do you value more? Are any of your choices made to please other people or impress them or is the judgment of others something you don't really consider when you choose? That's what I'm getting at here. Some go through life constantly trying to please others. They want to be liked, accepted. Belonging to a group is essential to them. Being alone on their own would be anathema to them so they will do or say whatever it takes to have the group accept them. Whose lives are they living? Their own or what people expect of them so they will be "liked"? The collective "morality/ethics" of a group is artificial I think. What people say and do to be accepted may have nothing whatsoever to do with what they think or feel. Belonging to a group was something I'd think about wistfully as a painfully shy child but I never really did belong, I still don't. I found my niche by simply being as true to myself as I can be and not worrying about what others think of me. That freed me .
About being vegetarian. Jim and I would have no problem converting 100%. I think we're already at about 90%. Whole grains, beans, veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds make up our diet. There is a new product out called "Beyond meat" that is delicious and made entirely of veggies. We regularly eat veggie burgers but this is the most delicious version we have found to date. The same ingredients are fashioned into sausages and hot dogs which we haven't tried yet. It is a fact that eating meat is harmful to the planet and the human body so at some point there will be wholesale conversions to becoming vegetarians for survival. In the beginning there was only meat early homo saps had to eat. For us Vegetarian sure. Vegan? No. We like our dairy products and I have never quite understood why eating what animals produce (milk for instance) is so bad. In fact I'm gonna ask. Thank you for your reply bw! :)
