It (cognitive dissonance) almost never occurs consciously, but people identify themselves with/by what they believe to be true. If they find out it isn't, they have to overhaul their entire personality. Denial is the mind's way of averting or delaying the pain of (to say nothing of the work required to repair) such a schism.
Example: there are people who genuinely believe socialism is a viable or good political/economic system. When they're presented with contrary historical evidence (e.g., Venezuela), they'll go out of their way to avoid accepting/integrating the new information.
Truth is an essential component within the fabric of our society
For without truth there can be no justice which will lead to an ever-downward spiral into terminal decay and thus finally put an end to to evolution
Winston Churchill:
Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.
not for me Rosie
I welcome the Truth at any time
so i won't live in illusion
I almost agree with you 100% Baba. Here's why it's "almost". Sometimes a truth does nothing but bring pain. It does not bring helpful revelation or enhance a situation or bring insight. An example would be that at a funeral a "friend" approaches the widow and tells her about an affair her husband was having during their marriage. She knew nothing about it. Now she lives out the rest of her life in pain and sadness. What was the point of that? Other than something like I agree with thee. Truth is better than lies. Anything based on a lie is worthless. When you believe information that is untrue you could cause
great harm/damage/tragedy. We have enough people doing that purposefully as it is. Thank you for your reply and Happy US Labor Day Monday! :)
