RACISM/SYSTEMIC RACISM. Is there a difference?

    Yes.

    "Systemic Racism" is a hoax.
The term means a system is racist.  Systems are inanimate.  They are neither "racist" nor "bigoted" nor "diverse".
They are a product of the people who create them.

Thanks a bunch Walt. I heard it yesterday for the first time. Or maybe I'd heard it before and it just didn't click. But if something is set up to exclude certain groups of people based on race how is it a hoax? For example at some point realtors didn't want to sell property to African Americans because in doing so it would allegedly bring down the value of surrounding properties. At one point (and probably still today) certain country clubs would only allow whites to join. Also remember the Negro Leagues in baseball? The major leagues had no African Americans among the members until one man hired Jackie Robinson? So wasn't the system of baseball systemically racist? Wouldn't that be systemic racism? Remember when  African American entertainers could not stay at the hotels at which they performed? They had to stay elsewhere? How was that not systemic racism? Thank you for your reply.

Inanimate objects ... or systems ... can't have motives.  Because of the simple fact that they are unintelligent.
It's like saying a street is racist.

The people who create a system may be racist.
But the system itself is not.  Because it is inanimate.  Unthinking.

People who are not racist can change the system.
The system doesn't care one way or another.  Because it is inanimate.  Unthinking.

The system is a framework set up by human beings. Once completed it operates automatically. Of course systems and frameworks are created by animate entities. ONCE IN PLACE THEY OPERATE INDEPENDENTLY. We are coming at this from two different places. I KNOW what animate means Walt. I also know what INANIMATE means I stand by my  examples. You stand by your comprehending of them. It's an impasse. Thank you for your reply. A SYSTEM doesn't think. What makes you think I think it does? Once system is put in motion it continues until/unless an outside force changes it or it breaks down. Once in that SYSTEM where RACISM set up the parameters it keeps grinding on. Oh well. That's it. IMO the problem with using the phrase "Systemic Racism" is that it blames the system, rather than the individuals.

It is often used in the context of police shootings.
But the system of policing is not racist.  The individual officers are (or not) racists.
Nor is it racist that the system gives police more protections than the average citizen.
The officer gets the same protection no matter what racial differences are between the cop and citizen involved in the incident.
