Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» An Answermug member asserts that the word "GENTILE" is racist. Doesn't it just describe those who are not Jewish? Do YOU think it's RACIST?
No, it is simply a description of the people. It root of the word is "goym" which means "nations". So it simply means people from other nations. It is not an insult or derogatory.
No I don't find it to be racist in the least. That is simply my opinion though. Interesting question, Rosie. I should delve into the roots of this further, there may be much I don't know. As it is I have never known it to be exclusionary or disparaging against other groups. Hmmm.
Me too neither Twink. I just wonder though what other words that I think are benign and fine others find offensive? I'm gonna ask. You can't know UNLESS YOU ASK. Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday m'dear! )
That's what I think too tom. It would never occur to me that being called a Gentile would be a dig or insult or putdown. I guess folks can find offense in many things though. Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday! :)
