You can't force a mentally ill person to get help.   Laws need to change.

Please do not demonize mental illness and make it the cause of all violence and bad behavior.  It is way more a restriction of civil rights to enact laws against mental illness than it is to enact laws against private ownership of assault rifles. Even IF (and it may not be the case - not every evil act is due to mental illness) the shooter is mentally ill, he would not be inflicting mass carnage without those weapons.

While not every mentally ill person is violent....I will say every person who commiting a mass shooting is mental. And someone who knew/knows them saw signs of it coming.

Racism, hate, and bigotry are not mental illnesses. And expecting others to be responsible for not stopping the actions of evil-doers is just victim-blaming at its worst and is reminiscent of McCarthyism.

I have people in my family with mental illness and trust me I pay attention to what they are going on about and if they start talking about taking people out....I will report it. And yes anyone who has so much hatred in their heart that they can decide it is ok for them to straight up murder people has got mental problems.

Think back to Columbine. Aurora Theater. Newtown. MSD was next, too.

Has it escaped anyone’s notice that these atrocities are being carried out by bigoted white males?

We need to report people who are a danger. Most of these people have family/friends/aquintences who hear and see things that should be reported.

We also need to make sure that NO ONE has access to assault rifles. Most people do not have the expertise to recognize whether an individual is capable of a mass shooting.  Mental health is an issue, but it is not the sole reason for these acts.

No one has access to assault rifes....that have been illegal since the 1980s without special permit and to buy a real assault rife (automatic fire) costs at least $20,000.

One of the shooters used a long rifle....do we take those from people as well?

The police chief in El Paso said the shooter had a legally purchased weapon and that he was legally able to carry it openly.  I'm not sure whether to believe him or you.

Which means he had a semi automatic rifle. They are not assault rifles...an assault rifle is a full automatic.

The US is averaging more than one mass shooting per day this year alone.  I no longer care if gun control laws infringe on anyone's rights - lack of gun control laws is infringing on MY rights.

Here's the deal.  These shooters are suicidal and decide to take others out with them since they are going that way anyhow.

literally just ban guns. like seriously wtf. who needs a f*cking assault rifle anyway.

are we just going to report every single person with a mental illness because MAYBE they will shoot up a Walmart or a school or a mall or a theater? nah bro. just throw your guns away and find another way to compensate for whatever you're trying to compensate for.

No, they are not. A 10-year ban was enacted in 1994. It expired in 2004. The production of assault rifles has increased by 300% since then.

i believe that legislation only applies to automatic and not semi automatic... the civilian semi automatic Ar15 rifle is commonly used in these mass shooting incidents and completely legal... so yeah that's the tea

It is the most commonly purchased rifle in the US.

An assault rifle is a fully auotmatic weapon....a civilian AR-15 is not a assult rifle. If is used for hunting, target shooting and defense.
