How would you know HOW to love if you were never loved? Isn't that the main obligation of parents? LOVE THEIR CHILDREN AND LET THEM KNOW?
Of course protecting them and teaching them is part of that package. Why have kids if you aren't going to love them and nurture them and make them feel valuable/worthy/good?
I think a lot depends on the makeup of the person. Yes, there are people who grew up never being loved and it has left a hole in them that they may never be able to fill, but there are also people who have grown up under dire circumstances which have made them more sympathetic to those in the same circumstances. I know someone who was orphaned at a young age. He and his older brother were taken in by an aunt and uncle out of a sense of obligation and they were treated like the red-headed stepchildren. My friend turned out to be one of the most loving and generous people I've ever known. He'd lay down his life for his children. His brother turned out to be one of the most selfish and unpleasant people I've ever known.
Your point is deftly proven by that example sweetie. Different folks react to the same situation in very different ways. A crapshoot though because until you are in that place how do you know how you would react? Thank you for your reply ! :)
