    William of Ockham was an English Franciscan friar and scholastic philosopher who lived from 1287 – 1347.
    He probably used a straight-edged steel knife freshly sharpened each day on a whet-stone.
    I don't think safety-razors were thought of till about the C17th and then they took a while to evolve.

    Arrgh...another serious answer. I still love you. LOL. I actually was able to sharpen a knife enough to shave with. We had contests in the Navy.
