Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» If you were a normal human being who were president would you be contemptuous of protecting human lives but all aboard for protecting oil?
Sadly, caring more about oil than human lives is nothing new. Wars have been fought over this very subject, costing countless lives. Money, gold, resources, reputation ... these are but a few things that many people consider more important than a single human life. Sure, many people may claim that lives matter more, but when it comes right down to it their actions show otherwise.
Are you okay firewise Shuhak? Since you're online I know you have electricity. For now. How is it going up there?
As for having lust for oil is something I don't understand. It afflicts males. Is it a phallic symbol or something? I'm deadly serious. Does it prove manhood to put it front and center of everything? Sheesh. No offense intended Shuhak but seriously why is that such a strong common thread through human history? I'm gonna ask! Thank you for your reply! :)

I'm as prepared as I can be. This fire thing is really scary as this area is literally a torch just begging to be lit. They're shutting power down at 2 pm today, so I'll be "off the grid" until Tuesday or so.
******* Oil = money. For many, money is more important than anything else.
Oh geez Shuhak I am so very sorry! You must live in a very lush and beautiful area. We live on the flats with no appreciable brush around. Well take care. I'll be thinking of you and hoping you are okay. Please check in as soon as you're back just so we know how you are. Thank you for your reply Shuhak and Happy Sunday! :)
You've been on my mind every day m'dear. The entire state is on fire. What do you do about food in the fridge? Is this the way you are going to have to live from now on? How does depriving people of electricity stop fires? How close to you are/were the fires Shuhak? Anyway welcome back and Happy Thursday to you! :):):):):):):):):):)
I lost all the food in my fridge during the first round of blackouts, and only replaced the bare essentials (few condiments, a box of milk, carton of eggs, and some cheese. No sense buying a lot of food again just to lose it. My sister bought a generator so I can put a few things at her house (she's about a mile away). I have an ice chest which I filled with frozen water bottles and ziplock bags filled with ice cubes that kept anything I needed to use within 24 hours. Basically I live on bread, peanut butter, honey, and canned chicken. When the power's out I have heat and water (gas), but no septic as it's run by an electric pump. The main fire is about 100 miles away, so I'm not affected by it. We had a small fire locally on Sunday (18 acres). Although it was on the far side of town, for a while it was raining ash (whole burned leaves and blades of grass). I sat out in the wind and smoke watching to make sure none of it sparked up a fire here.
PG&E lines are not insulated and are above ground, so a strong breeze can cause them to arc. It's so dry here that the ground literally crunches under foot. One stray spark in the wind and poof... up goes the neighborhood. I'd much rather have no power than have no house.
This may be how you are gonna live from now on? Geez. It seems to me there has to be a better way than this. Would you ever think of relocating to a less dry place Shuhak? Thank you for your in-depth reply. I appreciate it. I hate to think of you not knowing from fire to fire what you will be deprived of next. It's one thing for you to go dark on your own and hibernate/unplug. Having it thrust upon you and for so many days? Seems evil to me.
Definitely not. I'd call in the scientists to develop a program for transition out of oil, coal and gas within ten years. I'd try to get the most essential planks of policy accomplished within six months, and most of the changes underway within two years, so there's still time to correct any errors. With only four years in a term, I'd have to be certain to get as much accomplished as possible. The technology for alternative energy sources already exists, enough to answer the needs for all geographic regions; it's only a matter of smoothing the transition so that workers get trained for their new jobs, and companies transition to better ways of earning.
((hugs)) I bet you can tell I LOVE YOUR REPLY bw. What gave it away? Thank you for your very thoughtful and informative reply. I hope someone with power and CLOUT is paying attention, listening, planning to follow such a plan now. From your lips to the skies and beyond let it happen! :)
That is all a very extended "what if". Presidents are people but how "normal" are they? Am I even capable of being "normal" whatever that means? I know I am never going to be a president - who would elect me? And what do I know about human lives or about oil? I know I am incapable of protecting all human lives as is everyone. All human lives can not be protected. Nor should they be. There is life and death and we all have to deal with both sooner or later. When a life is up it is up and just saving all lives we only end up with that more people polluting the environment. So by trying inordinately to save lives all we do is shorten our own by wrecking the environment. Oil is a valuable resource and when we look through history we find that often access to oil has figured in who has won or lost wars. So no oil and you lose wars and maybe get wiped out yourself. It is not an either - or, rather everything is connected.
