Yes. Car wrecks, injury from wrecks, debts, dog bite.

    I won most.

Lost the dog bite which still makes me mad. The law was on my side. But insurance company did not want to go to court.

I recently had to take someone to court.
We had a "lease to own" contract for a house I was selling ... and I had to file to remove them from the property, and then foreclose.
They still owe me over $20,000 in unpaid months, late fees, taxes, and attorney fees.

If they have a job, you can garnish their wages.
If they have property, you can slap a lien on it.  Or sometimes force them to sell it, and pay you.

    Haven't needed to.

The police took a man to court for violent assault against me, and they won.

I threatened to report to a newspaper if a shop didn't give me the money for a saddle they had sold for me. The threat of loss of business was enough to make them cough up the cash instantly.

On another occasion, I threatened to take a company to the ombudsman for insisting on charging far more than specified in the quote and contract. That too worked instantly.

Years ago, I did lose out to a bad builder. He had absconded and become untraceable - otherwise, I would have sured for the costs required to repair his work

I've been lucky. Other than these instances, I've never had the need to sue.

WOW! That's some history kiddo! My stepdad was involved in a very bad accident from which he never recovered. My mom got an attorney and sued and got hundreds of thousands of dollars which she needed to care for him. Other than being divorced I have never personally been in any situation where suing was required and I've never been sued. I wonder how many folks can say that? I'm gonna ask. Thank you for your thoughtful reply bw. Appreciate it.
