Picture caring about an animal and then butchering it.  Would you butcher your dog or cat?  Why do we have to keep up this stupid routine?  Like killing a helpless bird will increase the meaning of the idea of GIVING AND BOUNTY.  Why do this?

I don't do that.  I never will do that.  And I despise the idea of doing that.  Period.

  • I've always loved how every year
the President does a formal "dog and pony" show of pardoning a Turkey.

Its kinda sweet and cute and obviously a national tradition at this point.
But I'm still gonna gobble a gobbler.
I'm with you though on the whole caring for it almost as a pet and then slaughtering it.
That would be unfathomable to me.  I don't want to know my food on that level. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at November 5, 2019 10:33 AM MST

So slaughtering an animal is okay if YOU are not attached.    How generous of you.  How protective of YOUR heart you are.  What about the animal.  Out of sight, out of mind?  They don't just kill turkeys, they make sure their lives are ones of misery before they die as well.

It's sickening.  Sorry, but I cannot car about insulting anyone when this practice is in place.  Do you have ANY idea what a turkey is like?  They are not just some dumb life form that came down to grace our dinner tables.

A Much More Respectable Bird... a Bird of Courage"

A Short History of the Turkey

    by Andrew G. Gardner

Ben Franklin favored the turkey over the eagle as the national bird, but the gobbler has been honored mainly at the dinner table.

This is what human beings do to celebrate an animal.  KILL IT AND PUT IT ON THE TABLE TO ENJOY?

  • Shar honey,

I appreciate the sentiment but I am not a vegetarian.  I am a meat eater.  I LOVE meat.  Always have.  And I loooove Turkey almost as much as Twinks.  Truthfully, I too am part of the food chain and I'm sure if the right hungry animal came along it would not have a crises of character before licking its lips and devouring me.  Admittedly I understand how some can't bear the thought of eating animals but I am not among their number.  Like it or not humans are omnivores, now here sweetie...have a drumstick.

Twinkie Dink, BABY, Sweeheart, and Shuga,

I am NOT trying to turn you into a vegetarian. I AM TELLING YOU WHAT I THINK.  THAT IS ALL. YOU GET A PIECE OF MY MIND ABOUT YOUR PIECE OF TURKEY SO I CAN VENT.  VENT.  V E N T. That is my purpose here for me.  VENTING.

That's all I do and I have no ulcers because now I HAVE PEACE OF MIND.

I gave you a piece of my mind, now go try and digest that piece of turkey.  It will make you very tired and it will put you to sleep.  Then you can forget about my diatribe.  SWEET DREAMS.  Turkey has L-triptophane in it and it is an amino acid that causes drowsiness. Beyond.

(Is it racist if it is true?)  I may as well get in on this Asian bashing. I feel I have a right.  I have to work on Asians and there is a TYPE just like Canadians, that really bug the crap out of me.

    (YES, I am evil too.)

I LOVE Asians.  I have embraced EVERYTHING about them except for the pushy, neurotic type.  Those are the product of their culture of  WORKING THEIR BUMS OFF and expecting everyone else to fall in line like they do.
NOPE. Not putting up with that tactic.  I hate that and I cannot work on people who try to micromanage me.

All the other Asians I love, recognize the flaws in their people and laugh with us.  No harm.  No foul. Asians are brilliant and lovely humans and we are so much better off with them around.  FOR REALS.    Just like them Canadians.  (except for the ones from Quebec, they are bred to be anal sphincters)

I helped two Vietnam students and a Chinese student get through organic chemistry labs. They were great. Later, I had a niece of the Vietnam students in my chemistry class in high school.

My favorite teacher and one of my favorite humans was a Viet Nam young man.  WOW.  I just loved that guy and would show up for class early just to hang with him.  He was so funny.  We had the same sense of humor and he would make old lady jokes to me and I would make Asian jokes right back.  We had fun together.  Trust like that comes from love and respect. I know you feel it too about those humans you speak of.

    Report me for what?

This is the problem today. The SJWs are tearing apart the fabric of American society.
That picture is from a great multi-award winning, great American film called "Barefoot int he Park"
I'm tired of having my heritage destroyed. Aren't you?

    Thank you very much, Sharona.
In an effort to show that I am not singling out any particular "special class", allow me to display my self-deprecating side. Here is a bar-stool at a fag bar...

Animal Medicine of the Week – TURKEY

    AUGUST 13, 2013 LISA LYLE 1 COMMENT

heritage_turkeyPower Animal of the Week – Turkey

Intuitive Message – Express gratitude every single day and continue to give away, and let go of that you no longer need.  With Love and Gratitude, Lisa

    Message from the guidebook –

    #31

    Ho, Brother Turkey!

    So freely you give,

    Of everything that you are,

    So others may truly live.

    TURKEY – GIVE-AWAY

Turkey is actually thought to be the Give-Away Eagle or South Eagle of many Native peoples.  The philosophy of give-away was practiced by many tribes.  Simply stated, it is the deep and abiding recognition of the sacrifices of both self and others.  People in modern day society, who have many times more than they need, should study the noble turkey who sacrifices itself so that we may live.  In Turkey’s death we have our life.  Honour Turkey.

Spectators unfamiliar with the cultural phenomenon of the potlatch or give-away ceremony are often mystified by it.  A tribal member may gladly give away all he or she owns, and do without in order to help the People.  In present day urban life, we are taught to acquire and get ahead.  The person with the most toys wins the game.  In some cultures, no one can win the game unless the whole of the People’s needs are met.  A person who claims more than his or her share is looked upon as selfish or crazy or both.  The poor, the aged, and the feeble have honour.  The person who gives away the most and carries the burdens of the People is one of the most respected.

Turkey was the medicine of many saints and mystics.  Celebrate if you have Turkey medicine.  Your virtues are many.  You have transcended self.  You act and react on the behalf of others.  You aspire to help those who need help.  This is not out of some sense of self-righteous moralism or religious guilt.  Help and sustenance are given by Turkey out of the realization that all life is sacred.  It is knowing that the Great Spirit resides within all people.  It is an acknowledgement that what you do for others you do for yourself.  Turkey medicine rests in true ego, in enlightenment.  Doing unto others and feeding the People is the message of all spiritual systems.

Depending on how Turkey is aspected in your cards, you are being given a gift.  This gift could be spiritual, material or even intellectual.  The gift may be great or small, but it is never insignificant.  Congratulations.  You may have just won the lottery.  Or the gift may be a beautiful sunset, or the smell of a fragrant flower.  On the other hand, you may feel the “spirit of giving” growing within you, and wanting you to share with others.

    Humans are omnivores.
God created us that way. As proof, look in the mirror and smile. Those eye-teeth are our canines for puncturing and ripping flesh.  As we have been evolving and eating softer foods, the canines have been diminishing to those lovely, pointed teeth that you floss and brush each day (or rinse in a glass).

The turkey is perhaps one of the most unattractive animals on earth besides wildebeests and hogs.  God made them hideous, giving them a  massive flapping faux-testicle (aka waddle) on their neck so they are easier to kill.

Nevertheless, it's important to know that as humans we require proteins from our food. Sure, some may argue that various plants such as beans can also provide proteins and nutrients but that is not how we were meant to evolve. Human beings are hunter-gatherers and as such, each of us has the potential to track down, kill and eat our quarry when we are faced with hunger.

It has only been within the last few decades that this false narrative that "meats" are bad which has been driving the rediculous self-induced vegetarianism. Do you understand that turkeys do NOT have feelings? Perhaps you have never visited a farm with thousands of turkeys. They are so dumb that when it rains, they look up to see what is falling on their head and they drown.

I  have heard this same caterwauling about lobsters. There is nothing tastier than a live lobster, plunged headfirst into a huge pot of boiling water then ripped apart upon serving, the delicious succulent meat dipped in fresh butter. No one is going to tell me that a lobster has feelings (queue teardrops). As a young boy, I remember playing with the lobsters my dad brought home on the kitchen floor before my dad & mom killed them for us to enjoy our dinner.
    Those are such fond memories.

"Or the gift may be a beautiful sunset or the smell of a fragrant flower"

The only smell I enjoy is the smell of a fresh-killed turkey, gutted and stuffed with pork dressing, cooked in an oven for 3-5 hours then served with a heaping mountain of mashed potatoes and a side of cranberry sauce, and slathered with gravy made from the drippings of the dead bird.

    OMG!!!
    I AM SO HUNGRY NOW!
